Bathroom Mini ReMod – Part 1 February 23, 2009
It’s begun. The long awaited attack on the kid’s bathroom.
Actually, I started this project sometime last year, I think. I painted it a light green. Then I immediately ran back to the paint store and painted it a much more sane color…something like a light gold. At the same time, I removed the baseboards. I didn’t replace the baseboards because I knew we wanted new flooring in there…some day.
I started scraping up the flooring at the doorway where the linoleum was already chipped. DH was going to do this, however, he was distracted by some online game with his buddies. When he saw me grabbing tools from the work bench he urged me to leave it alone because, “You’ll just muck it up.”.
It wasn’t easy, but I took the high ground and ignored him. (He didn’t fare so well when he later accused me of stealing “his” spatulas…used for spackle & such. I took “my” spatulas out from “my” painting kit and chucked the big one at him. Too bad it was only plastic.) Ah, the loving bond that grows between a man and wife during a home improvement project…
We did make it through the first day of our project without killing anyone or having the police show up. So, success!
Out, out you demons of chipped & faded old linoleum and swollen particle board cabinetry with broken drawers.
That yucky brown area is the glue from the 12×12 sticky tiles that were in the bathroom. I was halfway through scraping them off when I remembered that I was going to blog this.
Don’t you just love the missing drawer look? What’s really impressive is what you cannot see. The children have flooded the counter so badly that the particle board began expanding in the front near the doorway.

Finally! I didn’t time myself to see how long it actually took to remove all those sticky square tiles. It probably took about an hour total. The worst part was pulling it up around the toilet. Whomever put that floor down really glued it down on the tub side of the toilet. The easiest part was the final 4 squares near the doorway. Those just popped out with very little effort from my scraping tools.
I have this strange habit of not wearing gloves when I should, so I ended up with blisters…well, popped blisters…in the palm of my right hand. I sustained other various injuries in the process. Including coming head-to-head with my 4 yr old who was hopping around the bathroom from sink counter, to toilet, to the bathtub. She zigged and I zagged and WHAM!

Yeah! The sink is gone! It’s all still sitting in my front yard…just outside the front door because there are plumbing parts my husband needs from them.
He began laying the tile yesterday (I thought I took a picture, but I guess I didn’t). He marked off the tiles to be cut & I made a template for the base of the toilet since it would affect 4 tiles. Then I took all those tiles…9-10 of them back to Lowe’s for them to cut. We still had to nip out our curves. Oh, does my right arm & my butt feel that today (my arm from the nippers & my butt from the squatting I did while nipping the tile in the front yard…I didn’t want to kneel into the tile chips with my bare knees).
At 6:30pm, I was informed by the loud noise and lots of swearing that he broke a full size tile. So, off to Lowe’s I went again…with about 25 minutes to get there, get my tile, and get out. Rather than purchase a few tiles, DH insisted I buy a full box. Since I always…well, sometimes, do what he tells me I bought what he requested.
He didn’t lay anymore tile after I returned because he was still nipping out the tiles for around the toilet. He finished that up and we ate dinner on the couch while watching a documentary about the Knight’s Templar.
March 31st, 2009 – Red Envelope Day! February 19, 2009
I received this info from a friend. Thought I would share it.
Red Envelope Day!
What:
Get red envelopes or postcards Red Envelope Day) and mail them on March 31st to the White House
When:
March 31st, 2009
Get a red envelope. You can buy them at Kinkos, or at party supply stores. On the front, address it to
President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington , D.C. 20500
On the back, write the following message.
This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion.
It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world.
We will mail the envelopes out March 31st, 2009.
Put it in the mail, and send it. Then forward this event to every one of your friends who you think would send one too. I wish we could send 50 million red envelopes, one for every child who died [in the U.S.] before having a chance to live.
It may seem that those who believe abortion is wrong are in a minority. It may seem like we have no voice and it’s shameful to even bring it up. Let us show our President and the world that the voices of those of us who do not believe abortion is acceptable are not silent and must be heard.
Together we can change the heart of The President and save the lives of millions of children.
The event wall is not for discussion regarding the abortion issue. If you don’t agree with this event or what it stands for please do not attend.
Wall posts may be deleted for any reason.
Thank you.
Barack Obama spoke at a Planned Parenthood Action Fund event, uttering the now infamous line, “Well, the first thing I’d do as president is, is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. [Applause.] That’s the first thing that I’d do.”
An empty red envelope will send a message to President Barack Obama that there is moral outrage in this country over this issue [The Freedom of Choice Act, which will essentially “undo” every law currently in place to limit abortion in the U.S. (i.e., parental consent laws, parental notification, waiting periods, prohibition of transporting a minor girl across state lines to obtain an abortion, etc.)]. It will be quiet, but clear.
Please read more about The Freedom of Choice Act here:

Senator John Mica’s Response to my CPSIA Concerns February 18, 2009
I hope I will get a chance to see Sen. Mica again. He was recently two tables away from me at an event where it would have been very appropriate for me to approach him and I didn’t know it until it was too late.

Dear mom2giqm:
Thank you for contacting me with regard to H.R. 4040, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. It is good to hear from you and I appreciate the opportunity to respond.
I understand your concern over the February 10th deadline for compliance withe the CPSCI (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act). While I am in support of the safety regulations that were put into place under the CPSCI, I am concerned about individuals and industries who may have not been able to comply with these new regulations within the allotted time. For more information regarding these new regulations and how to best comply with them, please refer to the CPSC’s website at CPSIA. As your Representative in Congress, it is important for me to hear your views. Please know that I will carefully consider your comments.
Thank you again for your correspondence and please do not hesitate to contact me again with this or any other issue of interest to you.
With my regards and best wishes, I remain
Sincerely,
John L. Mica
Member of Congress

I’ve been tagged by Homeschool Diva.
The Rules:
1. Go to the 4th folder where you keep your pictures on your computer.
2. Post the 4th picture in the folder.
3. Explain the photo.
4. Tag 4 fellow bloggers to join in the fun!
Well, I followed the rules to the best of my ability since my computer is uniquely “organized”. I went to the 4th picture of the 4th folder of the 4th folder of the 4th folder of MyPictures.
So, what is it? It appears to be a bouquet of fruit from Edible Arrangements that I received for my birthday in 2007 from L in Arizona. I remember that she said she saw the Edible Arrangement store and thought it would be a cool gift. It was definitely unique, but a bit difficult to fit in the fridge. But I’m not complaining. I can also recall all of the pointy sticks in the bouquet after you remove the fruits.
In the background of the picture, from left to right, I see my small cutting board, 1 of 3 utensil holders from Bed, Bath, & Beyond, a light switch, some knives in the block, a blue chalk holder, my kitchen phone, my phone call message log book & pen, our alarm system, the G & I’s coin-counting banks from DiscoverChannel.com, the cord mess, a cd, jar (?), & finally in the lower right corner, the strap from my camera.

I Will NEVER Be a Socialist! February 11, 2009
Yes, the current political air has my blood boiling. So I have decided to blog my vents.
My letter to Newsweek (Letters@newsweek.com; WebEditors@newsweek.com)
in regards to the following article entitled:
We Are All Socialists Now
By Jon Meacham and Evan Thomas | NEWSWEEK
Published Feb 7, 2009
From the magazine issue dated Feb 16, 2009
HOW DARE YOU! I can assure you that we are NOT all socialists now. Liberals may be having a lover affair with socialism and communism, but HALF of this country (the REAL PATRIOTIC AMERICANS) DID NOT vote for the socialist/communist agenda of your naive, inexperienced, Toddler-in-Chief! I resent you including me and my fellow AMERICAN PATRIOTS in your rubbish assumption. We don’t want to be like the French or any other ruined-by-socialism country! Socialism is UNACCEPTABLE! It has FAILED everywhere it has been tried! Your idea of “success” is so horribly pitiful. What is wrong with you people? The world has long envied America because we did it RIGHT! Now you want to drag us down to the level of the rest of the world RATHER than trying to elevate the rest of the world to have what we have had??? I don’t get that! Socialism is the PROBLEM in this world NOT the solution. If it weren’t for the evil oppressive dictators, the world would be thriving in the same prosperity Americans have long enjoyed. But you champion extreme government dependence, creating not wealth or even middle-class status, but creating indentured slaves. I’m sick of hearing about “Free Healthcare”, “Free Education”, and everything else “Free” that people want. IT’S NOT FREE! Nothing is FREE! Selling your SOUL to the government so you can be apathetic and at their mercy for your care and condition is ABSURD! The PRICE for Socialism is TOO HIGH!
Disappointed Floridian February 10, 2009
Feb 10th, 2009
Dear Governor Crist:
I am so deeply disappointed and saddened that you have aligned yourself with the socialistic agenda of Obama. As a conservative, you should know the difference between true economic stimulus and wasteful government spending. Whatever benefits you think Florida will receive from this pork bill, it is not worth the devastation that Floridians will suffer as a result of it. Have you not been paying attention? Obama’s socialistic agenda is BAD for the economy! Four out of 5 economists told us this during the election season. The market reaffirmed this on Nov 5th, 2008, Jan 20th, 2008, and Feb 10, 2009 and will continue in devastating decline with every move toward Obama’s socialism. This is not the American legacy I want for my children and future generations.
